What is a Justice of the Peace?
A Justice of the Peace (JP) is a person appointed under Jamaican law — usually someone well known in their community — who serves the public as an officer of the peace.
JPs witness signatures, certify copies of documents, administer oaths, and handle other everyday legal formalities. You may need one for affidavits, statutory declarations, passport references, and similar paperwork. Use this directory to find an active JP in your parish.
